Handsfree sets for mobile phones, smart phones and PDAs in general appear in two forms, that is: wired headsets and Bluetooth headsets. Each type has its associated advantages and disadvantages and one cannot clearly say which type is better without defining the use of the headsets first. For it is readily apparent that the Bluetooth headset is preferable to those who have to work and keep mobile and is therefore usually used for work. This is so because most Bluetooth handsfree headsets are designed to find around one ear and therefore allow the user to converse on the phone as well as with people directly around him/her easily. Bluetooth headsets are not generally suited for music listening because they cover a single ear allowing noise from the world around you to disrupt your listening (although there are some Bluetooth headsets which are geared towards music and consequently cover both ears and hence provide better sound quality). Another major issue is that Bluetooth headsets have limited talk time and have on average about a week's worth of standby time. This means that (usually) a separate charger is required for your headset as well. Wired headsets on the other hand while having the obvious disadvantage (of wires) on the other hand usually have better sound quality and as they do not need to be charged, they have unlimited talk time. There is the problem that wired headsets are powered through the phone cells so the smart phone or PDA will lose its charge quicker. on the other hand, Bluetooth headsets too consume the smart phone or PDAs charge through the Bluetooth transmission. So inconclusively, the type of headset you should use depends on your requirements, your phone's compatibility and battery life.
