The Blackberry is popular for its ability to send and receive e-mail on the go, hence by specialising on a particular feature the Blackberry has carved out a niche for itself in the market (about 8 million subscribers) even though many other PDA devices now offer the same service. In fact some PDAs by SonyEricsson, Motorola, HTC and Nokia use the same e-mail client. Palm

Palm or rather PalmOne to be precise was originally a division of US Robotics and later became a wholly independent PDA manufacturing company. It used to be that all Palm devices ran on the Palm OS however as of the Palm Treo 700W. Furthermore the market for PDAs is being contested more and more as many phone manufacturers are now making multi-function smartphones which combine the functions of a PDA with a cell phone so that it is expected that soon PDA-only devices will no longer be available. The full list of Palm devices would be fairly lengthy however the following devices are some of their more successful ones: The PalmOne Centro, the Palm Treo series - PalmOne Treo 600, PalmOne Treo 650, PalmOne Treo 680, PalmOne Treo (TM) 680, PalmOne Treo 700p, PalmOne Treo 700W, PalmOne Treo 700WX, PalmOne Treo 750, PalmOne Treo (TM) 750 and the PalmOne Treo 755p, the Palm series - PalmOne II, PalmOne III, PalmOne V, PalmOne VII which was replaced by the m series - PalmOne m100, PalmOne m105, PalmOne m125, PalmOne m130, PalmOne m500 and PalmOne m505, the Tungsten series - PalmOne Tungsten C, PalmOne Tungsten E, PalmOne Tungsten E2, PalmOne Tungsten T, PalmOne Tungsten T2, PalmOne Tungsten T3, PalmOne Tungsten T5, PalmOne Tungsten TX and PalmOne Tungsten W, the PalmOne i705, the PalmOne LifeDrive, the PalmOne VX, the PalmOne Z22 and the Zire series - PalmOne Zire, PalmOne Zire 71 and PalmOne Zire 72.

Orange

Orange SPV was a type of smart of phone made by High Tech Computers (HTC) for the telecommunication company Orange SA and particularly for its mobile operator division. SPV stands for Sounds, Pictures and Videos so if you were expecting something complicated we are terribly sorry to disappoint you. Like many cell-phones, smart-phones and PDAs, the SPV line largely uses Texas Instruments processors (with the exception of a one that uses a Samsung processor). The SPV line continues even to this day and its latest manifestation was the SPV E650 smart phone. The SPV line has also standardized the Microsoft Windows Mobile OS ever since the launch of the original SPV which operated on the Microsoft Smartphone 2002 OS. Amongst the many smartphones released by Orange SPV are the Orange SPV M1000 and Orange SPV M2000 which seem to hold a special place in many people's memories as they were amongst the first Windows powered smartphones and thus carried mobile versions of Outlook, Internet Explorer, Media Player in addition to calendar, task and contact which meant it was particularly useful for business users who could keep in touch with their work while on the go.
The following types of products are available at PDAaccessories: Bluetooth, Package, Leather Cases, Carrying Case, Chargers and Synchronizers, Stylus, Data Storage, Battery, Screen Protectors, Screen Cleaning Kits, Hands Free, Keyboards, Kits, Gaming Console Accessories, Booster Sticker, Antenna and Amplifiers, Gadgets, Cameras, Laptop Chargers, Laptop Keyboards, Wireless Cards, GPS Batteries and GPS Mounts.

O2

O2 was a company whose base of operations in various countries was made from demergers from BT (British Telecom). Late in 2005, the Spanish company Telefonica bought O2 plc. Although O2's main area of business is realted to both fixed and mobile phone services, it also offers broadband services and also sells a range of wirelessly connecting PDA and smartphones branded as XDA. These XDA PDAs are often produced by multiple manufacturers such as Quanta, Erima, etc. Current models are the XDA Orbit and the XDA Stellar, earlier models include: O2 XDA II & XDA IIi, O2 XDA III & XDA IIs, O2 XDA I and O2 XDA II Mini all of which have been retired. Nintendo

Nintendo, makers of classics, innovator of new trends, the old the new combined. Yes, although Nintendo has been rather inactive in recent times, the launch of the Wii has led to it once again becoming a dominant player in the console wars. In fact Nintendo is the leader in terms of console sales for this generation of consoles and even though both the XBox 360 and PS3 are technically far superior the Nintendo Wii's innovative and (physically) challenging but immensely fun style of play has made it a success. From its first venture (mass produced) into gaming consoles NES to the Wii, Nintendo has persisted in trying to be fresh with its game designs and gameplay (Duckhunt anyone? Hint: Light Zapper) and outdone its combination by sheer ingenuity. The same can be said of its game development ranging from the old classics (Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, Excite Bike, Duck Hunt, etc) to its modern classics (Zelda, Wii Sports, to an extent Pokemon, Wii Sports, Animal Crossing, etc). It is also (undoubtedly) the most experienced and one of the leading manufacturers of portable consoles (Gameboy Advance/Color/Pocket, DS) and have encouraged innovative gameplay in the DS as well with the two screens, one of which is a touch screen.
Accessories for the following brands are available at PDA Accessories: Apple / Ipod, Audiovox, Casio, Dell, Handspring, i-mate, MDA, Kyocera, Microsoft, Motorola, O2, Orange SPV, Palm, Qtek, Blackberry, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, Sony, T-Mobile and Toshiba.

Motorola

Motorola is probably best known for its mobile handset the Moto RAZR, however its business encompasses networking systems, microprocessors, embedded systems and even used to include government and defense business before it was sold off to General Dynamics. However, it was the Moto RAZR that made it popular and comprised the bulk of its revenue so when it went out of fashion, unsurprisingly Motorola's revenue too fell drastically. However, the RAZR was not the only phone that Motorola made, amonst others were the Motorola Q and Motorola Moto Q9m or Q9c PDAs. Other than that the more popular Motorola phones are: Motorola i265, Motorola i335, Motorola i580, Motorola i670, Motorola i850, Motorola i880, Motorola i930, Motorola KRZR K1, Motorola RAZR V3 Pearl Gray, Motorola RAZR V3m, Motorola RAZR V3t, Motorola RAZR2, Motorola V195s, Motorola W490 Purpal and Motorola Z3.

Microsoft

Microsoft, the first thing that comes to mind is monopoly and not the boardgame either, for how often have we heard the two words together. However there is a lot more to Microsoft than just being a monopoly. Other than Microsoft Windows, the world renowned operating system, Microsoft also develops other software such as Microsoft Office (productivity software), Internet Explorer, Media Player, Encarta, Messenger, Silverlight and a host of software both for development and casual use. Microsoft has also diversified to the hardware market with their own lineup of mice, portable music players (Zune) and gaming consoles (XBox and XBox 360). Microsoft has also developed an operating system for mobile devices such as PDAs known as Windows Mobile.

Amongst their extensive lineup some of the more popular Kyocera phones are the Kyocera 6035 and the Kyocera 7135 both of which are flip-phones (that is they have the clamshell form factor). The Kyocera 6035 was released in 2002 and is a monochrome PDA whereas the Kyocera 7135 is a color phoneand was released in 2004. The 6035 and 7135 phones both operate on CDMA cellular networks.

T-Mobile MDA

MDA is the brand name with which PDAs made by HTC are marketed. These MDA PDAs are sold by T-Mobile and the following are some of the models available:MDA I, MDA Compact, MDA II and MDA III. As HTC has launched its own lineup of PDAs and smart-phones since late 2006, it no longer works as an OEM for other companies and so the MDA lineup of PDAs has been discontinued by T-Mobile (although one can still find the page by googling T-Mobile MDA, the resulting page however shows that the MDA is now "Out of Stock").

i-mate

The i-mate company is a rather recent addition to the PDA market and till late 2006 carried products manufactured by HTC the Taiwanese mobile device giant. In 2006 HTC decided to start selling its devices under its own brand name and soon after ended business relations with i-mate. Thereafter i-mate started carrying devices from other manufacturers such as Inventec and TechFaith. i-mate is an expanding company and recently opened a new regional base in Singapore. i-mate products use Microsoft Windows Mobile OS and among their more popular products are: i-mate Jam 900, i-mate PDA 2, i-mate PDA2K and i-mate Jam.

Although iPaq was originally the name of Compaq's destop computer lineup, it was later used by Compaq for their PDAs as well when they were launched in 2000. After Hewlett-Packard (HP) took over Compaq and its subsidiaries, the product has been marketed by HP as HP-iPaq. HP-iPaq is one of the main competitors for Palm Pocket PC. Handspring

Handspring (now defunct) was a PDA manufacturer that merged with palmOne in 2003. The PDAs made by Handspring were known either as Treo or Visor, with different versions of each available. The first Handspring product to hit the market was the Handspring Visor in late 1999 and was one of the first PDAs to use USB for synchronization which made it instantly compatible with the Mac OS. The different versions of Treo PDAs were: Treo 90, Treo 180, Treo 270 and Treo 300. And the different versions of Visor PDAs were: Visor Edge, Visor Deluxe, Visor Neo, Visor Platinum, Visor Prism and the Visor Pro. The last product to hit the market by Handspring was the Handspring Treo 600 (now known as the palmOne Treo 600) and was during its time one of the few quad-band GSM phones available in the US. As most of the electronics in Handspring PDAs are solid state they are very robust and last a long time therefore it is not surprising that the Visor is still in use today and as Palm OS is backwards compatible therefore many of the applications made for newer Palm devices work with the old Visor.

The following types of products are available at PDAaccessories: Bluetooth, Package, Leather Cases, Carrying Case, Chargers and Synchronizers, Stylus, Data Storage, Battery, Screen Protectors, Screen Cleaning Kits, Hands Free, Keyboards, Kits, Gaming Console Accessories, Booster Sticker, Antenna and Amplifiers, Gadgets, Cameras, Laptop Chargers, Laptop Keyboards, Wireless Cards and GPS Batteries, GPS Mounts

These Axim PDAs ran using Microsoft Windows Mobile and although the product line is now discontinued Dell will keep supporting sold units for a period of 3 years. The following versions of Axim PDAs were made: Axim X3, Axim X5, Axim X30, Axim X50, Axim X51 and Axim X51v. The Dell PDA family used Intel processors and the X30 (high-end version) was the fastest PDA of its time based on processor speed.

Casio is a well known brand name and its products are commonly seen in most households in the form of wrist watches, clocks and calculators. However, they are less well known for other products such as musical keyboards, PDAs, electronic dictionaries and digital diaries, printers, portable and handheld televisions, etc. As our blog is mainly related to PDAs and laptops, our readers would be interested to know that Casio has the following PDAs available: Casio BE 300, Casio E 10, Casio E 100, Casio E 125, Casio E 200 and Casio EM 500. Although this is not a comprehensive list it does cover the more popular Casio PDAs.

Audiovox

Audiovox is an old company as things go in the computing world, established since the mid-60s and mainly deals in consumer electronics and value added services. Its main products for the consumer market are radios, speakers, amplifiers, satellite radio, LCD and Plasma flat panel TVs, home and portable stereos, portable DVD players, home speaker systems, mobile or cell phones, etc. Audiovox has recently strengthened the consumer electronics side of its business by purchasing the consumer electronics accessory business as well as the consumer electronics audio video busniess from Thomson SA. Audiovox also operates under other brand names such as Acoustic Research, Advent, RCA, Terk, etc. Some of the more common Audiovox products are the Audiovox Thera, Audiovox Thera 2032, Audiovox Mastero, Audiovox PPC (4100, 5050, 6600, 6601, 6700), Audiovox SMT 5600 and the Audiovox XV (6600 and 6601).

Apple

Apple, the company, first began as a manufacturer of personal PCs and faced direct competition from the likes of Commodore, IBM, Tandy, Xerox, etc. Since its beginnings in 1977, Apple has diversified itself into a maker of portable music players (iPod Mini, iPod Photo, iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano), smart phones or PDAs (iPhone), Laptops (Macbook, Macbook Air and Macbook PRO) as well as desktop PCs (iMacs). Other than that, Apple Inc. also develops its own software to go with its hardware products; this includes the Mac OS X operating system, iTunes, Quicktime, iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, GarageBand and the web browser that is rapidly gaining popularity, Safari. Apple has strong competition in all its products, particularly in the form of Microsoft which goes head to head against Apple's OS X with Windows, iTunes with Media Player, iPod with Zune, etc but due to Apple's unique philosophy of combining aesthetic designs with no-nonsense functionality it has an uncommonly loyal customer base within and without the US. However, Apple has been criticized frequently due to its policy of not facilitating creation of software to run and maintain its devices (such as iPod and iPhone) other than its own iTunes. It was also criticized for making the iPhone available for use on only a single mobile service provider in the US and UK. Although Apple faces these and other criticisms, it still is a distinct brand in the computer hardware and software as well as consumer electronics industry.

Accessories for the following laptop manufacturers are available at PDA Accessories: Acer, Averatec, BenQ, Canon, Dell, Fujitsu, Gateway, Hitachi, HP, iBooks by Apple, JVC, Mitsubishi, NEC, Nikon, Sony, Toshiba, Trigem, Viewsonic, WinBook, etc.

GPS Mounts

If you have are planning on getting a GPS device or already have one for your vehicle, then you should consider getting a GPS mount if you don't already have one. It is quite obvious what the advantages of mounting your GPS device to your car's windscreen could be but for those who can't think of any here are a few: first and foremost, you don't have to take your eyes of the road to look at your GPS display so this is especially useful for people who are taking long journeys and so don't have to get cricks in their neck. The other obvious advantage is that by having the GPS device on your windscreen, you can spend more time looking at the road and so have a better chance of saving your life in case of an emergency. Other than that if your GPS device is not installed in your car's (or other vehicle's) console and is just lying around then it is liable to fall off the console or seat, etc it is far easier to manage something that is fixed in one place. Another useful accessory for your GPS device could be the car charger or travel charger, simply plug it into the vehicle's cigar lighter receptacle (or car adapter or cigarette lighter socket as it is more commonly known) and plug the other end into your GPS device to charge it. Accessories for the following brands are available at PDA Accessories: Apple / Ipod, Audiovox, Casio, Dell, Handspring, i-mate, MDA, Kyocera, Microsoft, Motorola, Nintendo, O2, Orange SPV, Palm, Qtek, Blackberry, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, Sony, T-Mobile and Toshiba.
